Basic Blueprint Reading Principles for Fire Alarm Applications

This free 60-minute webinar is being held on Wednesday, June 17th. Understanding construction drawings is a critical skill for the construction professional. This presentation offers an overview of interpreting low voltage system design blueprints, with an emphasis on fire alarm systems. Key topics include drawing organization, title blocks, terminology, scales, and abbreviations. We will explore the best practices for reading contract documents, including equipment symbols, floor plan layouts, schematics, notes, and riser diagrams. The session also highlights the relationship between drawings and specifications, and the importance of cross-referencing disciplines – such as aligning floor plans with architectural sections to visualize the building in three dimensions and support effective system integration.

Jason Lupa, PE is a Business Development Engineer with Siemens Industry where he supports fire safety professions from pre-con to post construction. For over 35 years he has provided code and performance-based solutions to a wide variety of building sectors. Jason holds a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering from U of MD, is a Licensed Engineer and certified Firefighter. Active member of the SFPE, NFPA, SAME, GBCA, BOMA, and AFAA.
