In this course, you will learn how to use drawings on a job. You will learn about several types of drawings in a construction document package and where you can find important information you need to install a fire alarm system as designed. You will also learn how to create and modify drawings out in the field.

Intro to Wire and Terminating Wire Bundle

In this course, you will learn about the different kinds of wire used for fire alarm systems. You will learn about network cabling like CAT 6, and about single mode and multi-mode fiber. This course wraps up our discussion of fire alarm wire and wiring methods with a look at terminating wire.

Installing Sprinkler Devices

This course is all about monitoring sprinkler systems. You will learn how to wire up waterflow switches, OS&Y valve tamper switches and butterfly tamper switches. You will learn how to wire up alarm and low air pressure switches and how to adjust compressor and pressure switch settings on a dry pipe or preaction sprinkler system. You will also learn how to wire up and test a solenoid for a preaction sprinkler system. Lastly, you will learn the basics of monitoring fire pump status.

Tools for Techs and Construction Basics Bundle

In this bundle, you’ll get introduced to a wide range of hand tools, power tools, meters and other tools that you will need for the proper installation, inspection and maintenance of fire alarm systems. You will also learn about how a building and a fire alarm system get built. You’ll learn about construction tiers, the bidding process and types of drawings and specifications. You’ll learn about the different trades on a jobsite that you might interact with and you’ll get some helpful advice on how to work in new vs existing buildings. To top off the course, you’ll get a thorough overview of how to install a fire alarm system from start to finish.

Installing Electrical Boxes

In this course, you will learn about a wide variety of electrical boxes and various methods for surface mounting and flush mounting in new and existing work. This includes ceilings, beams, steel columns, sheetrock walls, concrete walls and outdoor locations. You will learn how to build good junction boxes and riser cans and how to make fire alarm control unit installation and maintenance easier. You will also learn code requirements for box fill, labelling and mixing power limited fire alarm cabling with 110 VAC wiring.

Addressing Devices and Installing Smoke and Heat Detectors Bundle

In this course, you will learn how to use the methods that different manufacturers have implemented for assigning an address to a fire alarm device. You will also learn how to mount and install a range of smoke and heat detectors, including conventional and addressable detectors on both walls and ceilings.

In this course, you will learn how to install addressable fire alarm modules. This course also covers wiring and installation of conventional and addressable notification appliances like speakers, horns, chimes, bells and strobes. Lastly, you will learn when and how to install transient voltage surge suppressors (AKA surge arrestors or surge protectors).
